Finale Aka Conclusion

Looking like a smooth clamshell and with a sport orientated design (thanks to Nike), one feels comfortable holding it or strapping it to the arm for maximal convenience. We can't find any fault with it in terms of design and handling. The 3-Color LED is highly effective in indicating various modes of operation

The software bundled (Musicmatch Jukebox) performs very well. The value of the psa[64 is further enhanced with firmware that can be flashed to support future audio standards. However, we would have liked the ability to transfer data files in and out of the psa[64 as well.

In terms of audio playback quality, we have nothing to complain about. Clarity is there and music files can be tweaked (bass and treble) with the help of the equalizer functions.

Additionally, battery life is excellent and should last for several sessions of exercise. In our battery tests, the psa[64 exceeded the manufacturer's specifications of 10 hours using a rechargeable 700mAh NiMH cell.

The pair of stereo headphones does leave some room for improvement. We prefer the earphones to be made of softer or thicker materials. Furthermore, the wire management system tends to get in the way unless you position them carefully. As such, you will need some time to experiment with them before finding the ideal spots to place them.

All in all, the psa[64 works, looks and sounds great. The only things that impede its performance are the wire management system and the bundled headphones. Some redesign to make them easier to use or more comfortable to wear will do wonders here.

The PSA[64 is a 64MB player that is retailed at S$249.

The psa[64 solid-state portable audio player retails at S$249. Philips provides for a limited warranty of 90 days free exchange and one year free parts.
