Sony Ericsson and Research In Motion announce BlackBerry Connect v4.0 support on the Sony Ericsson P1i in Asia Pacific

Sony Ericsson and Research In Motion (RIM) announced out-of-the-box availability of BlackBerry Connect software v4.0 on the Sony Ericsson P1i in various countries in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. BlackBerry Connect will be pre-loaded on the Sony Ericsson P1i and supports push-based wireless email services, including attachment viewing and wireless email synchronization, in conjunction with both BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service.

Additional features supported through BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Connect v4.0 include:
• Enhanced attachment handling capabilities, enabling users to view images, footnotes and tracked changes;
• Remote look-up of corporate email address directory;
• Triple DES or AES wireless encryption;
• Internet and corporate intranet access via the BlackBerry Mobile Data System (MDS);
• Wireless device provisioning to allow devices to be activated wirelessly;
• Remote control of email settings to allow users to wirelessly configure out-of-office replies, email filters, and auto-signatures directly from their device; and
• Wireless IT policy enforcement and commands.

"We have worked closely with RIM to provide one of the finest mobile office solutions available on the Symbian platform," said Mr. Lennard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President, Head of Asia Pacific. "The robust functionality of the Sony Ericsson P1i together with out-of-the-box support for the BlackBerry platform will provide customers with a powerful communications tool that’s both secure and speedy to set up."

"RIM is pleased to be expanding our relationship with Sony Ericsson to introduce BlackBerry Connect v4.0 on the Sony Ericsson P1i ," said Mr. Norm Lo, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Research In Motion. "With BlackBerry Connect v4.0 support, P1i customers in Asia Pacificwill be able to leverage the power of BlackBerry services and enjoy enhanced communications and productivity benefits."

The P1i is Sony Ericsson's fifth-generation P-series smartphone and is a perfect business companion. A major design shift from earlier P-series phones, the P1i combines a stylish, premium finish with a pocket-sized form factor. Yet it does not compromise on performance; the Sony Ericsson P1i lets the user choose how they interact with the phone by using its three-way input interface, as well as manage new business contacts through the 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus that doubles as a business card scanner. The Sony Ericsson P1i operates on hi-speed UMTS and supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and VoIP. For corporate customers, BlackBerry Enterprise Server software tightly integrates with IBM Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and Novell GroupWise and works with existing enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based wireless access to email and other corporate data. For individuals and smaller businesses, BlackBerry Internet Service allows users to access multiple supported email accounts (including most popular ISP email accounts) from a single device. BlackBerry Connect will be pre-loaded on new P1i smartphones and existing Sony Ericsson P1i users can download the BlackBerry Connect v4.0 software from the Sony Ericsson website at www.sonyericsson.com.
